Bye Bye BOL

March5

One of the podcasts I listen to daily (well Tuesday to Saturday) is Cnets Buzz Out Loud podcast. I have been listening for about a year now and in that time, my favourite host, Veronica Belmont has left, and the show has become dull, we at least in my opinion. For this reason, I have unsubscribed from the podcast.

There were other factors that also influenced my decision for example news that I am not interested in and/or news that I have already seen on half a dozen websites and end up hearing on another (or a few other) podcasts I currently listen to. I am interested in mainly technology news, which is what BOL mainly consists of, but before I get to download and listen to the podcast, I have already read most of the news, especially the big announcements, either on Digg or in my RSS reader. I don’t really need to hear it again in a podcast, even though if it is big enough, I will hear it on next weeks TWiT or other podcast on their network.

So I have unsubscribed from their podcast and now have about 40 minutes extra each day, or 200 minutes a week, to listen and watch the current media I download. I couldn’t think of any good reason to keep downloading it everyday and listening to it. The past few months, I haven’t really been listening to what they have been saying and generally zone out or use it as background sound while I am on the computer. Oh well, I won’t miss it that much, I still have my other podcasts to listen to and watch.

Busy Schedule

October14

And this is the first week of term four over. I though I wouldn’t be able to fit everything into my week but somehow I managed, even with the many obsticles. I have two more tv shows to watch and one more podcast to listen to for the week that that all my media consumed, for this week at least. Having no laptop and having a lot of other events, such at my other commitments as well as my grandmothers 80th birthday,  have been some distractions of the week and I will easily fit everything into a regular week. Because of the week, the posts here have been a bit weak. I promise a couple of post with more in them next week.

Onto another subject, I want to remind you all that this is a personal blog. No news here, just me and my life. If you are not interested in this, please do yourself a favor and unsubscribe from the feed. It sounds odd that someone is asking for people to subscribe, normally people are harping on for people to subscribe and such. To be honest, I don’t care about how many people read this, how many people subscribe here or how many people comment here. If you want to, you are most welcome. I don’t need people to criticize my posts , especially about spelling and grammar. If it bothers you that much, refer to what I said a few sentences back, I don’t need you commenting on grammar errors. If you don’t want to get over it and really must say something that is irrelevant to the topic of the post, email me.

With that out of my system, I will continue to do what I normally do. I hope to get my laptop back before Heroes, Prison Break and Chuck on Tuesday. I hate watching these widescreen shows on a standard monitor. Its amazing how much I miss my laptop. You don’t really realize how useful something, or someone is and how much they mean to you until you do not have them. This is how I feel about my laptop and I hope that she never has to part from me ever again. I miss you lappy! :(

End of Final Break

October7

Less than twelve hours till I will be back at school for the final term this year. This is the term that counts, study study study study! It is the build up towards the exams in 6 weeks. These exams will help determine the rest of our lives, fail you’re screwed, pass, you have the opportunity to move on and do better things. This year, I don’t want to screw this up like last year (not that I screwed up as such, I just could have put in a bit more effort to get the grades I should be aiming for.)

The absence of posts the past week have been for various reasons. First was when I realized I only had 5 days left of my break, I though I better use them productively and not leave things left undone when I start back. The second reason is because a mean person (yes, you know who you are) said that no one reads this so there is no point of me doing it. If you agree with this and you don’t read my blog and you think I should stop, feel free to comment :) I really wanted to continue my posting streak since last month I posted everyday for that month. This month I initially had a partner but he failed miserably on the first day which later caused me to become lazy and decide not to continue. Dam you Peppery!

The first week on my holiday consisted of surfing the internet, talking on IRC and watching the premieres of the fall shows. My intentions were to say a little bit about the shows I watched in a post but I got lazy and the shows banked up. It is really hard to watch 23 TV shows a week on top of all the video podcasts and audio podcasts aswell. That is basically what I have been doing the past five days, minimizing the queue of stuff to watch before I get back to school where they will most likely start to queue up due to the lack of time. I hope I can still say a quick few words on the TV series I have watched the premieres on but I will either procrastinate further, up to the point where it won’t be done, or I will end up writing it at school, which I doubt greatly.

Anyway, that basically sums up my two weeks break. I wish I had one more week, just one more week. I think that next week and the following weeks, right up until exams, my mind is going to implode under all the things I have to do. So much pressure to watch and do so many things, oh and also study on top of that. I guess I will just take it easy and see how it goes. On another note, don’t expect a blog post again! Leave yum9me ALONE! He’s not well right now. You’re lucky he even wrote for you bastards! Hehe :)

Tekzilla FTW!

September30

Yesterday, the premiere of Tekzilla got released. Tekzilla is a technology related show hosted by Jessica Corbin and Patrick Norton. The show delivers product reviews, computer help, tech tips plus do it yourself projects. The show has everything tech, from iPods to camcorders, HD to the Internet, anything and everything.

I initially was disappointed because this show was replacing one of my old favourites, InDigital. This tainted what I though about it and went into watching the first episode expecting it to suck. Now that I have seen it, I don’t think that it was that InDigital was ending, I don’t think that it was because something was replacing it, it was because I will miss the host I have grown to love over the past two years. I will miss Hahn and Wil.

Anyway, the episode blew me away. I loved it, really loved it. There is not much I can say about this show but you have to check it out. I do believe Revision3 has a winner here and I can’t wait to see it grow as time goes on. I would hope that we do see special guests on the show to make it more lively and interesting, and no, I’m not saying Patrick and Jessica are boring or will become boring, far from it actually.

The first episode was basic. They showed a great review on a video on demand box, they had some great tips on making better looking videos by showing camera techniques, they showed a battery hack to use a big 12 battery to power your handheld devices and they also showed you a nice piece of software for RAM diagnostics. You really have to check out the show yourself to witness how great it is. If I was rating this show, five dragons out of five dragons.

Farewell InDigital

September28

I listen to a few podcasts, about five weekly ones and a daily one. Most of the audio podcasts are done by the TWiT network. I also watch a few video podcasts, ones brought by Revision3. I have been watching and listening to these shows for a couple of years now. In the past years, I have never had to say goodbye to one of these shows that have become a part of my routine, part of my life. On Tuesday, a podcast that I had watched since its third episode, released its final episode ever.

InDigital is a show that looks at and reviews gadgets and products. I loved watching the show, it was very informative and made me want some of the products, and made me not want to even touch others. The hosts were very respected and all round great people. They had three awesome hosts, Hahn Choi, Jessica Corbin and Wil Wheaton, and I am going to miss them heaps.

Losing a show is a hard thing to do. Watching the flashbacks and everything brought tears to one eyes. I was not read to bid farewell to this excellent show. This show definitally got shut down before its time. It still had heaps of potential to grow and it is unfortunate that it wasn’t given a fair chance for survival. Revision3 gave the producer, Hahn, the options of moving the show to San Fransisco or ending it. He choose to end it because he didn’t want to move. I don’t understand why they can’t keep it the same as they had been doing.

Anyway, farewell my friend, I will miss you. Revision3 are replacing the show with something similar which will premiere tomorrow. I don’t know if I will like the show but hopefully it can fill some of the hole that Revision3 left after it pulled InDigital. :’(

No Early Diggnation Make yum9me Angry

September15

Today is the day Diggnation come out for members. Usually on this day, I would download Xvid Diggnation from a mirror. Unfortunately the mirror I use isn’t mirroring this week and I cannot find an alternative so I can get Diggnation early. This makes me uneasy because I am missing out and it has also ruined my Saturday Schedule.

Generally how it goes is on Saturday, I download Diggnation early in Xvid format to watch at night time. Then the next day, Sunday, I download the Quicktime HD H.264 and watch it at night then again too. This has been my weekend schedule for the past… 3 weeks now (I think) and I do not like my schedule being disrupted.

I am also thinking about downloading Diggnation a 3rd time each week, once in iTunes so I can put it on my iPod Classic when I get it. I’m not sure if it is worth it though. I wish I could just throw the Quicktime HD or Xvid onto it but iPods don’t support it. I vote for DivX/XviD support in Apple products!!!

Early Diggnation and in High Definition

September2

Now that Diggnation is released to members a day earlier and released to everyone a day after that, i can’t decided whether to download it on the Saturday using a mirror or the Sunday officially. I generally watch Diggnation on a Sunday night, its like my end of week routine. Diggnation is a nice way to end the week.

Saturday is one of the busiest days as that is the release of 2 podcasts, 2 TV Shows and now Diggnation. That is 2 hours of podcasts, 2 hours of television shows and now an hour of Diggnation. 5 hours of media compared to the now empty Sunday. Should I continue my routine and watch it on Sunday?

Another thing is the HD issue. First off, Quicktime videos don’t like playing of my laptop hard drive, which HD Diggnation plays in, secondly the videos are 600mb per episode, I barely have enough hard disk space at the moment let alone enough to support a 600mb diggnation episode each week. It it worth downloading it in HD. I’m pretty satisfied with the Xvid version that isn’t in HD to be honest.

Comments would be appreciated on this important issue. I can’t decide what to do!
