No Early Diggnation Make yum9me Angry

September15

Today is the day Diggnation come out for members. Usually on this day, I would download Xvid Diggnation from a mirror. Unfortunately the mirror I use isn’t mirroring this week and I cannot find an alternative so I can get Diggnation early. This makes me uneasy because I am missing out and it has also ruined my Saturday Schedule.

Generally how it goes is on Saturday, I download Diggnation early in Xvid format to watch at night time. Then the next day, Sunday, I download the Quicktime HD H.264 and watch it at night then again too. This has been my weekend schedule for the past… 3 weeks now (I think) and I do not like my schedule being disrupted.

I am also thinking about downloading Diggnation a 3rd time each week, once in iTunes so I can put it on my iPod Classic when I get it. I’m not sure if it is worth it though. I wish I could just throw the Quicktime HD or Xvid onto it but iPods don’t support it. I vote for DivX/XviD support in Apple products!!!

How to annoy me on Tumblr

September14

If you don’t already know, I have a Tumblelog hosted by Tumblr. I follow other peoples good tumblelogs, and people who have similar interests to me. I have recently been so annoyed and frustrated by two people I follow that it has resulted in me unfollowing them.

The first person I unfollowed annoyed me by spamming his twitter posts in his tumblelog. This results in about 20 post a day that consist of short messages taken from his twitter RSS feed. It is annoying because now my Tumblr dashboard is full of spam. Why would someone put spam in their tumblelog. If someone wanted to see your twitter posts, they would follow you there. There is no reason to move that into your tumblelog.

The second person annoyed me because I would see posts that they have reblogged off my tumblelog but they never sourced me. Everyone who has any kind of blog, whether its a full weblog, a tumblelog or even a microblog, they all source where they get things from. Its etiquette as well as common sense, well so I though. Unfollowing them isn’t going to stop them from not sourcing the people he gets content from but it mean I don’t have to see it, therefore can’t be that bothered by it.

So if anyone does these things, I am going to stop following them, whether it is on Tumblr, Twitter, a Blog or any other place online for that matter. Its annoying and frustrating! Don’t Spam and Source your posts! These things are so obvious but yet there are people that do it. I wonder how they would react if they were the one reading spam or the one that was having something they found or wrote and have that content used without sourcing!

Flickr Pro Free For Life, or until Yahoo! and Xtra Part

September8

I found out today, thanks to Peppery, that all Yahoo!Xtra Bubble users get free Flickr Pro. Of course I had to take up this offer so I quickly registered my families ISP email address to this service, and then made a sub-account for myself. This was a quick exercise and I soon had my own Xtra email address. Now was the time to get my free Pro account.

It wasn’t a problem transferring my Flickr account from my Yahoo address to my Xtra address to get my free Pro account. After I done it, I wonder what happens to that money I spent on my still valid Pro account. Does it just keep counting and expire when it is supposed to, sometime in June? If that is the case, can I get a refund or transfer my time left to someone else?

After a bit of research, it turns out that the Pro status I payed for get put on hold and will continue from where it left of either when I leave using my Xtra address or if the contract between Yahoo and my ISP ends. That gives me a lot of releif as I have not waisted $36 NZD on something that I end up getting free.

Thats all the excitement for ones day, parents getting me an iPod and ISP giving me Flickr Pro. http://flickr.com/photos/yum9me/

New Features on Pownce, Care I Do Not

September4

There are a few new features on Pownce. I don’t use Pownce much but I do read what people post on it. I generally don’t see any compelling reason to use these micro-blogging services. People use them for short messaging a wide amount of people but that is not something I have any reason to do, let alone have anything to say, therefore these services are somewhat useless to me.

One of the new features on Pownce is the showing of upcoming events on the right side of the page. First off, generally the event don’t have anything to do with me or are of interest. I don’t care about an event happening in America or Canada or any other international country. I don’t live anywhere near there and wouldn’t travel to those countries anytime soon so this new feature is irrelevant to me.

Another new feature was the automatic embedding of Videos and Pictures. In my opinion, this is what services like Tumblr and Soup do. This feature is more for blogging and mini-blogging services and not for the micro-blogging ones. They are moving into a field half way between mini and micro blogging by taking the best of both worlds and merging them together but not focusing greatly on these features to make it a hybrid type service.

The last new feature was linking of other web services. This is somewhat useful because now people can see links to the services I actually use, for example Digg, Flickr and Last.FM. You can also put your IM addresses and links to other websites, for example your personal blog. But this feature is not really original, just taking something that another service uses and taking a different angle.

I would only use these features if I had a way to connect to these site away from my computer. Some services offer this but they generally cost money, money I am not willing to spend on them. I still keep my eyes on the sites, reading what people are up to and interesting things they post. I read what my Pownce contacts have to say on the website and I also still read what people have to say on Twitter via the RSS feed. Am I still a user of these sites, even though I don’t contribute?

Early Diggnation and in High Definition

September2

Now that Diggnation is released to members a day earlier and released to everyone a day after that, i can’t decided whether to download it on the Saturday using a mirror or the Sunday officially. I generally watch Diggnation on a Sunday night, its like my end of week routine. Diggnation is a nice way to end the week.

Saturday is one of the busiest days as that is the release of 2 podcasts, 2 TV Shows and now Diggnation. That is 2 hours of podcasts, 2 hours of television shows and now an hour of Diggnation. 5 hours of media compared to the now empty Sunday. Should I continue my routine and watch it on Sunday?

Another thing is the HD issue. First off, Quicktime videos don’t like playing of my laptop hard drive, which HD Diggnation plays in, secondly the videos are 600mb per episode, I barely have enough hard disk space at the moment let alone enough to support a 600mb diggnation episode each week. It it worth downloading it in HD. I’m pretty satisfied with the Xvid version that isn’t in HD to be honest.

Comments would be appreciated on this important issue. I can’t decide what to do!

Fast Interwebs

August31

Yesterday when I was torrenting, I noticed that I was getting unusually high speeds. It’s kind of weird to hear someone complain about something that is in their favour, it’s like someone complaining about getting mark correct in a test for a question they clearly got correct and the mark is a matter of pass or fail.

Anyway, I want to know why my internet is faster than usual. I’m getting about 3 times faster on torrents and 5 times faster on http downloads. I do not like change, especially when I have no clue want is going on. I wish my stupid ISP would shine some light and tell me what was going on. I’m too lazy to ask them because they might do something about it.

Ten Million for Tumblr

August29

I was hoping that before I came home tonight that Tumblr wouldn’t have passed its ten millionth post so I could be the one to make that fabulous post. Unfortunately it was made before I got back.

For those of you who don’t know what Tumblr is, it is a Tumblelogging service I use for Yum9me’s Scrapbook. Its a fantastic service that I am very loyal too.

Congratulations to Davidville for its ever so successful service, Tumblr! I’m sure it won’t be long till the next major milestone of one hundred million posts!
